"We are family" is the theme of the latest issue of KiDS magazine. So many of us are separated from family members at the moment and must find new ways to stay together while we’re forced apart.
Of course everyone knows the benefits of ”staying home, staying safe, saving lives” outweigh the relative inconvenience and difficulties we all face but it’s not easy to explain what is going on to children, especially those too young to engage with their friends and extended family online via Zoom and Houseparty. Stacks of books, art activities, games, learning........how long before we relinquish the iPad or switch on the TV?
Try not to feel guilty. Forgive yourself succumbing to listless moments. They are inevitable, no matter how tough your resolve. A letter written by Italian author Francesca Melandri to the UK featured in the Guardian last week. Francesca has been locked down in Rome due to the Covid-19 pandemic for 3 weeks. In her “letter from your future” she explores the different emotional stages those of us in the early stages of lockdown are likely to encounter in the coming weeks.
One of her messages reveals that those good intentions (to exercise, to read, to take up a new hobby or learn a new language) don’t always lead to action. And when you can’t find the energy or motivation to follow through, don’t forget to be kind to yourself as well as others.
Wishing you and your family the best. Keep safe and well at home.
